Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel Announced

Posted by Adam Beck on 02 Aug 2012

There were rumblings a couple months ago about Electronic Arts working on a third entry into the Army of Two franchise, dubbed Army of Four. Those rumors were partially true as Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel has officially been announced as a grittier and more mature toned game (meaning no more high-fives and fist bumps) and will be developed on DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine. Salem and Rio will not be making a return, as Devil’s Cartel will have you playing as two faceless, and pretty much nameless, protagonists of Alpha and Bravo.

As the title may suggest, the story takes place in Mexico where the Tactical Worldwide Operations (T.W.O), a private military company, drops Alpha and Bravo in the middle of a drug war. Team-up with a friend, or stick with the artificial intelligence, in taking down a ruthless opposition. On a side note, development on Army of Two: Devil’s Cartel has been shifted from EA Montreal to Visceral Games, best known for their award-winning franchise, Dead Space. Who knows what this means for the franchise, but at least the company is exploring new things to keep it from being a run-of-the-mill shooter.
