Sleeping Dogs Tops the UK Charts

Posted by Adam Beck on 20 Aug 2012

The United Kingdom is apparently loving Sleeping Dogs, which we highly praised, as it topped the charts this week for video game sales, even beating out New Super Mario Bros. 2. No numbers were given, but it seems shocking that a new intellectual property could outsell Nintendo’s flagship title at launch. Granted, Sleeping Dogs came out on three established platforms while the cheerful plumber was only featured on one, but Mario is a franchise that is recognizable worldwide.

There’s no doubt New Super Mario Bros. 2 will outsell the game in the long run, but this marks a victory both Square Enix and United Front Games should be proud of. Activision must be kicking themselves for letting it go.

You’re right, Beck. But I’m thankful Activision backed off. I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have been quite as spectacular without the influence of Enix and UFG!

Good for Sleeping Dogs! Great to see a new IP have such a warm reception.
