Original 16-Bit Borderlands 2 Finally Released

Posted by Jake on 24 Aug 2012

Did you know Borderlands 2 was originally created for 16-bit consoles? It’s true, we found out on the internet. Originally named The Border Lands, it was not released because some deemed it, “too violent and influences children to do bad.” Parents became so outraged at the game’s inappropriateness that every copy of it was buried in the deserts of planet Pandora, never to be seen again. Years later we’ve been able to secure a copy of this rare game.

It’s legit, just look at those sweet, pixelized graphics. Choose from the four main characters of Borderlands 2; some are faster and others have more power to the weapons. The gameplay is as it was back in 1989, standard up and down, left and right controls. Dodge enemy fire and run away from those charging towards you. There is quite a variety of guns to choose from such as machine guns, shotguns, and rocket launchers. Shoot your weapon by tapping the button or holding it down. Given the technology at the time, this is a very solid predecessor to the Borderlands we know today. Not every feature is available, but there’s a good amount to make it feel nostalgic. The rebooted version of Borderlands 2 will be available on September 18 and we’re excited to compare the two. If you want to give the game a try, we have a highly confidential link. Just don’t spread it around too much or we may be thrown to the Skags.

Who would have thought Claptrap got his start so long ago? That precocious little scamp.
