Watch: First Ever Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Footage

Posted by Adam Beck on 01 Sep 2012

It was announced just two days ago that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes would be the latest iteration of the popular stealth-action franchise, but all we got were a few details into the story and a Splinter Cell style piece of artwork. In traditional Metal Gear Solid fashion, Konami and Kojima Productions have released a lengthy 11-minute-long video demonstrating the power of their new Fox Engine and even some gameplay to go along with it. Cinematics galore as we get a taste of the events that is ensuing along with some beautiful visuals.

It’s hard to tell how much of this is smoke and mirrors as it didn’t look quite as sharp when the video switched to Snake. Maybe it’s just the bump mapping on the rocks or the area that was selected, but the gameplay doesn’t look as visually stunning as the cinematics. Regardless, the Fox Engine is still something to be impressed by as this is by far the best looking Metal Gear game to date. The official release platforms, shown at the end of the video, are the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

This looks incredible. I love the score featured; sounds very The Thing 2011 (i.e. modern orchestration meets John Carpenter synth).
