Canada Finally Gets 3G… on the Vita

Posted by Adam Beck on 11 Sep 2012

While the Playstation Vita was released back in March (and even earlier in Japan), Canadians were left without a 3G option. It’s not like an army of Canadian citizens were at Sony’s doorstep demanding access to the last-generation service, but hey, we’re getting it now. Sony and Rogers Communications have announced today that they will be offering a 3G model for the luscious handheld.

“PlayStation Vita with a 3G connection will completely transform the way Canadian gamers play on the go, offering new ways to play games and interact with entertainment,” said Stephen Turvey, Vice President and General Manager, SCEC. “With access to the Rogers 3G wireless network, PlayStation Vita owners will be able to stay connected with their friends and experience PS Vita’s rich social gaming features virtually wherever they are.”

The new model will be available October 2, 2012 and will retail for the standard $299.99. The 3G pricing scheme will operate through monthly payment of either $15 for 250 MB or $35 for 5 GB. The model will also include two packed-in games of SCE Japan’s Gravity Rush and the final game from Zipper Interactive, Unit 13. If nothing else this will be a solid bundle for Gravity Rush alone.
