Watch: Pong Traffic Light in Germany

Posted by Steve Hannley on 17 Sep 2012

While driving is the only cool way to get anywhere, sometimes you’re forced to walk like a rube. There’s nothing more intolerable than being immobilized at an intersection as cars pass you by. If you’re planning a trip abroad, awkwardly stand no longer, as some intersections in Germany have been equipped with touchscreen games.

The device counts down exactly how much time is left for the red or green light, which is awesome enough already, but during a red light, a pong-like game starts. The kicker? Your opponent is the pedestrian waiting across the street; a nice way to spark a social connection. It’s absolutely free to play and is sure to take away the temptation of jaywalking.

Imagine if they decided to go with Frogger.

Check out a video of it in action below:

One day I plan to expose my child to no American history besides what they can pick up from playing Assassin's Creed III. Then I'm going to drop him or her into a Social Studies class and mildly enjoy the outcome. I'm going to be a great father.
