So How’s Cube World Coming Along, Anyway?

Posted by James on 18 Sep 2012

Cube World’s development has been running quiet lately, but developer Wollay released a new video showing off the game’s progress today.  The most notable feature is the new hanglider, which looks like it’s going to be a total blast to use.  The video also shows off features that have been around for a while, such as the combat system, multiplayer, giant bosses, destructible terrain, etc.

If you haven’t seen this before, Cube World (working title) is a mashup of Secret of Mana and Minecraft.  The blocky world is obviously Minecraft all the way, but items are gotten from smacking enemies around rather than digging for them.  The world is procedurally generated, as are the quests, but details are scarce as to whether there’s going to be a giant overarching plot to tie it all together.  The main point is to to get out there and explore the world, though, so it’s not like it will need anything too dramatic to keep the action moving.

Cube World is going to be released in its own sweet time, “when it’s done”.  Videos like this (and many more at the developer blog) aren’t going to make the waiting any easier.
