This whole “Neo Geo X” thing is really happening. Amazon now has the product listed for pre-order with a December 6th release date. For $199.99, prospective buyers can snag the handheld console (which includes 20 pre-loaded games), HDMI docking station, arcade stick and a Ninja Masters game card (for a limited time). The most exciting aspect of Ninja Masters is the fact that it opens up the possibility for future games to be released for the console via SD cards.
In other news, Tommo’s Andrew Wang has confirmed the inclusion of a 4:3 mode in response to an email inquiry:
Thank you very much for your interest in our product. There is indeed an option to play the games on the NEOGEO X Handheld in 4:3 aspect ration[sic], in this mode some portions of the screen are unused.
This is fantastic news for those who are sticklers about the whole “proper aspect ratio” thing.
Only those who buy pre-order the console before 12/6 will recieve Ninja Masters, so make sure to lock in your pre-order soon. Amazon has also posted some packaging shots, which we’ve included below:

This is a neat idea. It’s cool to see SNK keeping the NEO-GEO alive and retaining the same look as the original. I remember when I was 10 y/o (1990-1991) this system cost $650 and each games was $200.00 a piece. I wanted one sooo bad, but the price tag was crazy ridiculous at that time (and would still be insane for a console today). There was no way my mom would of been able to buy me this system, although she did buy me a SEGA GENESIS which was mad cool back in 1990. I did play a few of the games at arcades but never really got to finish them because I didn’t have enough quarters in my pocket. Unfortunately I’m not a huge retro gamer and I already played some of these games (emulated) a few years back since I never got a chance to play them in the 1990′s. So I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this system but I think it’s a great idea and a great price for those who enjoy these classics. It will be interesting to see what new games they develop for this system, could be promising.
