Darkstalkers Isn’t Dead Yet

Posted by RHF on 12 Oct 2012

As a big fan of the Darkstalkers franchise since the first game, I’ve patiently waited for years for the fabled fourth title. Fortunately, we today received confirmation that it does indeed exist. Unfortunately, it looks like we have to wait a little longer. Until then Capcom is giving newcomers a chance to check out this almost forgotten franchise, while giving long time fans something to whet their appetite for Darkstalkers 4, depending on how well this re-release does.

Announced during the New York Comic-Con, Darkstalkers Resurrection is another of Capcom’s classics brought back to the modern age. It’s a collection of two games, specifically Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge (originally released on Sega Saturn 1995) and Darkstalkers 3 (PS1 and Saturn 1998). Why the original that started it all isn’t included is a bit of a mystery, but I guess Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge is much like “Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers”, where it includes the original cast, but has also added new characters with slightly tweaked gameplay.

In hopes to entice veterans to return to the night, Capcom has added new features to both games, including online versus mode with 8 player lobbies, replay saving and sharing via Youtube, unlockable character and concept art, and challenges that are specific to each character. So what say you, gamers? Are you still afraid of what goes bump in the night or are you ready to be a part of what happens when the darkness rules? You’ll have plenty of time to think about that when Darkstalkers Resurrection comes out for Playstation Network and Xbox Live sometime in 2013.

Been a gamer for over 18 years. My favorite franchises are Tetris, Mega man Legends, Darkstalkers and Sonic the Hedgehog. I've got over 500 games in my collection and it continues to grow. Also I'm a Brony. Surprise!

Awesome news!

Ironically, my best memory of Darkstalkers involves the PSP launch. Lord knows why.
