Fears that Halo has faded from prominence have been put to rest with the announcement that the game has brought in more than $220 million in global sales in its first 24 hours. On track to reach $300 million the first week, lifetime sales of the franchise are now beyond $3.38 billion, cementing its status as one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time. Furthermore, more than 4 million gamers played the game the first five days, making it the most played Halo in franchise history.
While comparisons have been made to the game outgrossing opening weekends of films like The Avengers, it’s not exactly a fair analogy, as tickets cost between $7-$15 for a 3D movie while Halo 4 was $59.99 almost everywhere. Still, that’s a lot of games to move in such a short period of time proving just how important video games have become as a form of entertainment.
Now imagine what Black Ops II will move tomorrow.
