Ikaruga Now Available in Japanese Google Play Store

Posted by Steve Hannley on 12 Dec 2012

Good news for those who like to get destroyed on the go: Ikaruga is now available on Android. Unfortunately, it’s only listed on the Japanese Google Play Store, but it hopefully signals the possibility of an American port. Before you try to download the game anyway, be warned that it’s not compatible with phones outside its own country. There may be some sort of bypass à la foreign PSN/XBL accounts, but we’re clueless on the method and aren’t recommending anything that puts at phone at risk solely for Ikaruga — as good as it may be.

This marks the fifth incarnation of Ikaruga, debuting in Japanese arcades in 2001 before heading to Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox 360 and now Android. Hopefully one day Treasure will stop cashing in ports and make a proper sequel to Ikaruga. Or Radiant Silvergun. Or Silhouette Mirage…

One day I plan to expose my child to no American history besides what they can pick up from playing Assassin's Creed III. Then I'm going to drop him or her into a Social Studies class and mildly enjoy the outcome. I'm going to be a great father.
