Microsoft has announced that Halo 2 PC online multiplayer will be shut down on February 15th, 2013. As the Xbox version has been closed for over two years, this means the end of Halo 2 online multiplayer altogether. One of the most iconic games of last generation and one once synonymous with online gaming, the news comes as a disappointment. Still, as it was stated the service peaks at only 20 players, the move is certainly understandable.

After that date, Halo 2 multiplayer will only be available locally via LAN and multiple controllers. As anyone still playing Halo 2 multiplayer in 2013 likely doesn’t have any friends, however, it probably means the end of Halo 2 multiplayer as we know it.
