Nintendo and Xenoblade Chronicles Developer Reunite for X

Posted by JPeeples on 23 Jan 2013

With Xenoblade Chronicles’s Wii release outside of Japan being in doubt for so long, it’s more than a little surprising to see a successor in some form shown today by Nintendo. With today’s Nintendo Direct saving it for the last two minutes amid a slew of huge announcements, including playable versions of a new Mario Kart and 3D Mario game for Wii U at E3, the idea of them saving the best for last has XC players salivating. The game, called simply X in the video, shows characters doing battle in exactly the same way as in XC, and brought with it the same kind of stunning views of scenery.

Only a few scenarios were shown, but given the use of racing crafts, it wouldn’t appear that this is a remake of XC, but instead of follow-up since the X is in the same font as it was in XC. It might be a direct sequel to the events of that game, or perhaps a prequel. Either way, it’s exciting to imagine playing something like XC but with modern-day graphics. Players could definitely tell that XC’s vision vastly exceeded what the Wii’s hardware was capable of, and now players will get a game that looks as good as we all wanted XC to look.
