Wind Waker Remake Coming this Fall to Wii U, New Zelda to Follow

Posted by Bradly Hale on 23 Jan 2013

There haven’t been many remakes of Nintendo’s lovely Zelda franchise, however, that’s about to change. During this morning’s Nintendo Direct, it was announced that The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is getting an HD face lift for Wii U. As an updated version of the 2003 GameCube classic, Winder Waker HD will feature fully remastered graphics, GamePad functionality and off-TV play. Aside from that, details are rather thin at the moment, but it has been established that the game will arrive this coming fall.

According to producer Eiji Aonuma, Wind Waker HD isn’t the only Zelda to look forward to, though. He stated that Nintendo is already hard at work on a new Wii U title for the series, mentioning it will “rethink the conventions of Zelda” as well as hearken back to the basics found in previous titles.

I like how the cities look in the new look, but I feel it contrast the character models. They stand out in a bad way with the updated visual. Personally I’m not a big fan of Wind Waker, but I’ll keep an eye out on this

Well, that should look incredible. Wind Waker has aged quite well, although I wonder how they’ll take advantage of the Gamepad.

So long as this isn’t the big holiday title for Nintendo and the new Zelda follows soon after, I’m happy. One of my favorite games in the series, I’m just being a realist if I actually would spend the time beating it again.
