Namco Bandai Announces Mario Kart Arcade Grand Prix DX

Posted by Steve Hannley on 05 Feb 2013

Get ready to have awkward pictures of yourself taken and displayed publicly for everyone at Dave & Busters to see, as Mario Kart is making a third lap to arcades. A follow-up to 2007′s Mario Kart GP 2, Mario Arcade Grand Prix DX will include four modes: Grand Prix, Battle, Alter Ego Battle and Team Co-Op. The latter two are new additions to the series, with Alter Ego Battle mode sounding like a fancy way of being able to race a ghost of a player’s best time online. Team Co-Op mode will allow racers to band together with a partner to face two CPU racers.

10 redesigned courses, 50 different color variations for karts, 100 items and network play/online updates will also be included, making this the most robust arcade Mario Kart yet. No word on what hardware the cab runs on or if it will make its way stateside (odds are good), but as seen below, it sure looks snazzy.

Hopefully the release is used as a springboard for the much-needed incarnation of the game on the Wii U.

One day I plan to expose my child to no American history besides what they can pick up from playing Assassin's Creed III. Then I'm going to drop him or her into a Social Studies class and mildly enjoy the outcome. I'm going to be a great father.
