Darkstalkers Resurrection, which compiles the second and third game in the series, was first announced late last year to be released for XBLA and PSN. As the announcement came before the Wii U was released, many hoped that the title would later be announced for Nintendo’s latest console. When Capcom Arcade Cabinet was announced to not be on the console either, fans began to question whether or not Capcom was digitally supporting the Wii U.
Capcom Corporate Officer/Senior Vice-President Christian Svensson (aka Sven) has responded to those questioning the company’s multiplatform policy, stating:
Multiplatform refers to”more than one”. It does not necessarily mean “all”.
To answer your question more clearly, the projects in question were conceived of and started before having visibility into the digital Wii U market or Nintendo’s policies/vehicles pertaining to digital.
Fear not though. Wii U eShop fans will have things to look forward to in the future.
So while Wii U gamers won’t get to play re-releases of decade old games, it looks like Capcom will indeed be supporting the eShop for future releases.
