Worst Commercial Ever? Probably.

Posted by Bradly on 12 Feb 2013

Now don’t get us wrong, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance looks to be one hell of an action game. The demo and various previews seem to corroborate this notion. A sword-wielding cyborg who chops up robots into a million pieces and then plays hopscotch on a hail of missiles is just about the most absurdly awesome thing ever. The best part of it is, this is only one of the many scenarios waiting to be exploited in the MGR when it releases next week on February 19.

In general, the game just looks great — mostly because Platinum Games are responsible for it. But having said that, it’s important for us here at Hardcore Gamer to call a spade a spade. So, it’s with great displeasure, we bestow upon you the worst video game commercial quite possibly ever. The truth is, we’re not really all that sure why such a commercial is representing a top-notch game like Metal Gear Rising. On a more personal level, I guess I’m just confused on why a guy having a bad morning has anything to do with my desire to kill robots with a katana and rip out their cybernetic spines by the grasp of my bare hand. Not to mention the attempt at humor here is downright pathetic. Needless to say, the whole thing makes little to no sense and ultimately feels like a disservice to a game that is obviously a work of expert craftsmanship. Take note everyone, this isn’t how you make people want to play your game; actually it’s just the opposite.

Thus, it’s a genuine travesty that you all have to witness this, but alas, it must be done. So without any further ado, set your eyes on the video below. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to just go back to thinking about how fantastic the game will be, rather than just how miserable this TV spot is. Enjoy!

Ugh, I hate when gaming commercials go for the “real life funny scenario” thing. But this does that without the funny part. Why not highlight the fluid gameplay?

What’s not to get?

1. Burn hand on pan cooking eggs
2. Throw pan and eggs on ground
3. ???????
4. Metal Gear Rising!

The commercial should have been about how to properly cut a watermelon. Some infomercial parody.

It’s a mislead of a commercial, what this should be for was for God of War Ascension. Since it starts with this guy getting so mad, much like the one trick pony that is Kratos. Not at all sure what it has to do with Raiden other then being about letting your anger cut your enemies.
