38 Studios, Curt Schilling’s game studio that faced a whole lot of trouble after the fallout from Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning, has resurfaced — sort of. The website of the former studio, www.38studios.com, has been relaunched today after being down for an extended period of time. While the site looks far from professional, seemingly utilizing a default theme of WordPress or another service and having random comments and apologies for said content strewn around, it does seem to represent 38 Studios as we knew them. Generic posts for Project Copernicus, Kingdomgs of Amalur and the studio itself are currently all the site consists of, making it seem as if a third party didn’t just move in on the domain.
As the studio is embroiled in lawsuits, it seems odd that it would relaunch. There were murmurings that the IP and company would be auctioned off, so perhaps this is the result of that.
Whatever it is, we’ll be sure to follow the story.
[UPDATE] The site was just updated with a post that reads “Sorry, if you’re looking for 38Studios as it relates to Curt Shilling, Project Copernicus, or Reckoning: Kingdoms of Amalur. I’m sad to say they’re no longer exist.” It’s still unclear if this new venture will be video game related, but it looks like 38 Studios as we know it remains dead.
