It was announced today that Disney has entered into a partnership with Electronic Arts to produce several Star Wars titles over the next few years. According to reports, EA will develop and publish these games with a “core gaming audience” in mind, while Disney focuses on the more social platforms, targeting mobile and tablet players.
Adding to this already fascinating news is the fact that two of EA’s top development studios, DICE and Visceral, will be producing Star Wars games, too. For those not in the loop, DICE is best known for their Battlefield series, while Visceral is synonymous with the Dead Space franchise.
In the end, EA bigwig Frank Gibeau had this to say about the news:
Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise.
So there you have it; whether you love EA, or hate them, it looks like they’ll be manning the Star Wars helm for quite some time to come.
