In some news that is sure to excite Etrian Odyssey fans, Atlus announced today that the series’ next installment, Millennium Girl, is scheduled to arrive on 3DS October 1. For those not in the know, Millennium Girl is a retelling of the original DS title, with an added emphasis on story. Characters have been given an overhaul, with plenty of development, and the plot has been fleshed out so that, well, there actually is one now. The game will allow folks to play a classic version of the title as well, which drops the narrative additions, giving players the option to create their own combatants, as opposed to being given give predetermined ones like in the enhanced story mode.
For Millennium Girl, Atlus has also picked up anime studio Madhouse to create the opening cinematic and in-game cutscenes. Etrian Odyssey Untold will retail for $39.99, and add yet another first-person JRPG dungeon-crawler to the 3DS library. If Nintendo isn’t careful, they’re going to trick people into thinking these types of roleplaying games are popular. Though, in doing so, the gaming world would finally be introduced to a genre that actually matters and is worthy of one’s time and money. Needless to say, we’re hotly anticipating the game’s release in hopes that it exemplifies the pedigree for the franchise is known.
