For a while gamers have hoped multi-generational titles like Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Call of Duty: Ghosts would cost less for the last generation version. Since the last generation versions were seen as inferior, the idea of them costing less isn’t that farfetched. Despite this not happening at launch, all hope might not be lost.
Today Amazon, GameStop and Best Buy all dropped the price of Mad Max and Dying Light from $60 to $50. Oddly enough, this price change only affects the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, where as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are still $60.
Considering all three retailers made the same price change, this strongly suggests the last generation version will launch with a lower MSRP than the next generation version. This could mean we might see a new standard for multi-generational titles, though it’s impossible to say if that is what we’re seeing and even then, who knows how many games will follow suit. In either case, Amazon will honor the price regardless, so that is your safest bet if you want to save $10 on either game.
