Nintendo announced today that Yoshi’s New Island will be available to North American 3DS owners on March 14, in both retail locations and on the eShop. Originally revealed last April, Yoshi’s New Island is a direct sequel to the SNES classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. Better yet, the creative director of that game, Takashi Tezuka, has been overseeing this latest installment as a producer, which will hopefully mean a return to form for the green dinosaur after his DS outings met mixed reviews. Yoshi’s New Island features the same watercolor aesthetics and Baby Mario escorting we’ve come to expect from the Yoshi’s Island franchise, updated with 2.5D graphics and new gameplay elements. If previous reboot New Super Mario Bros. is anything to go on, we could be in for something special in Yoshi’s New Island.
