Long time SEGA connoisseurs will fondly remember Assault Suit Leynos, a really cool 2D mech action shooter that first appeared on the Genesis and was localized under the name Target Earth in North America. A sequel, Assault Suit Leynos II, would be released for the Saturn in Japan. A spin-off series titled Assault Suit Valken carried on for a bit longer with the most recent entry appearing on the PlayStation 2. As for Assault Suit Leynos, it has been out of the limelight since 1997.
That changes today as the series is being picked up for a major revival, this time on the PlayStation 4. Assault Suit Leynos is officially under development and is planned to be a next-gen remake of the original game which was originally released for the Genesis. In an age where reboots and remakes of retro classics are aplenty, Assault Suit Leynos is a welcome addition to this growing library of nostalgic re-releases with a fresh coat of paint.
Not much is known about the game yet, but you can check out the debut teaser trailer below and also visit the official Japanese website.
