This week has been full of surprises, no doubt. Today’s news though, from Square Enix, comes particularly as a shock. Earlier this morning, scans from the latest issue of Japan’s Jump magazine revealed that the famed Japanese developer has a new game waiting in the wings, exclusively for 3DS: Final Fantasy Explorers. Explorers is a multiplayer action-RPG that seems to blend all the best elements of a traditional FF game, with those of something more akin to Monster Hunter and even the underappreciated Crystal Chronicles spin-offs. What that actually means is it emphasizes cooperative play, the much adored job system, quests and taking down huge monsters (in this case summons — yep, you hunt summons; if that isn’t cool, we don’t know what is). The story seems to revolve around — wait for it — gathering crystals, further ensuring that the game’s core is rooted in some of the more bygone Final Fantasy titles.
From the one scan that was released, we see some pretty nifty stuff. For starters, it shows off a White Mage, Black Mage, Monk, and Knight, what appears to be Ifrit, as well as some sword-swinging action. No further details have been released at this time, but you can bet your bottom dollar we’ll be writing about them as they come down the pipe, so check back in the future. In the meantime, lay eyes on the scan below to get an idea of what to expect from the game.
