If you missed this weekend’s festivities, Red Bull Battle Grounds went down in Atlanta and saw top StarCraft II players duke it out in front of a live audience. Sung ‘Bomber’ Choi took home first place, winning $8,000 and 750 StarCraft II World Championship Seires points. He’ll also do battle in the Red Bull Battle Grounds Grand Final, September 20th – 21st in Washington, DC.
The first live Red Bull Battle Grounds event featuring open registration for pros and aspiring pros alike, the three day tournament brought the best of both gaming worlds: the unpredictable play of enthusiastic amateur competitors, and the top level strategies of pro-level play. Day one began with more than 50 aspiring gamers joining a strong contingent of pros hailing from around the world: Canada, Korea, China and even Australia. By 8AM, a line had already formed outside the door of Atlanta’s Center Stage Theater, as the local hopefuls arrived in droves, while other contenders crossed state lines for their chance to compete, driving from as far away as Louisiana, Tennessee, Philadelphia, and Illinois.
With Bomber’s win, five of the eight competitors for September’s grand finals in Washington DC have now been secured:
- Red Bull Battle Grounds 2013 Champion and runner-up, Lee Sak ‘PartinG’ Won and Kim ‘sOs’ Yoo Jin
- Red Bull Battle Grounds North America champion, Sasha ‘Scarlett’ Hosyn
- MLG Anaheim champion, Cho ‘Trap’ Sung Ho
