PS4 and PS Vita Getting Custom Theme Support

Getting tired of those boring, standard themes on PS4 and PS Vita? Well Sony has heard you and is set to deliver custom themes to both platforms in upcoming updates.

The announcement was made at Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, and that PS4 custom theme support will be part of Firmware Update 2.0. Sony promised that Update 2.0 was going to be huge, and they aren’t lying. In addition to custom theme support, 2.0 will also introduce Share Play, direct uploading to YouTube, and improved friend-finding options among other features to the PS4.

Custom themes for PS Vita will arrive as part of Firmware Update 3.30, which has only been announced for Japan so far. Four themes have been announced for PS Vita based on popular Vita games: Freedom Wars, Danganronpa: Another Episode, Phantasy Star Nova, and Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines.

Themes on PS4 and PS Vita function similarly to themes on PS3. Themes allow you to change the background image, as well as the appearance of various icons. Sony will undoubtedly release themes based on popular games, but fans will also be able to create their own and import them onto their console. No release date for either update was announced.
