Tomb Raider Has Sold More Than 8.5 Million Copies Since 2013

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ gritty Tomb Raider reboot is now the best-selling Tomb Raider game of all time. Square Enix has confirmed that combined sales of Tomb Raider on PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on PS4 and Xbox One have surpassed 8.5 million units.

“Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level. The game’s incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics. “Our studio is proud of what we accomplished with the game.”

Tomb Raider serves as a reboot and origin story for Lara Croft. Trapped on an island, Tomb Raider follows Lara’s ascent from an untried, untested young woman into a hardened survivor. The game quickly became a huge success, setting franchise sales records for its first day and month. A sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, is currently in developed for Xbox One and Xbox 360 for release holiday 2015.

Tomb Raider is out now on PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is also available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
