Word that "A Song of Fire and Ice" is being turned into at least one video game--but more likely a series--by a French developer got me to thinking about how uncommon such a thing really is.  There are all sorts of fantasy novels out there, but for some reason they don't tend to get made into games.  How many can you think of?

Just off the top of my head, there are...

Nine Princes in Amber (an old text adventure game based on the classic Zelazny novel)
Shannara (a PC game set in the Shannara universe, developed sometime around the time that the Heritage of Shannara quartet was published, as I recall)
Wheel of Time (an FPS-style game built on the Unreal engine)
The Lord of the Rings (various games based on Tolkien's trilogy, then on the movies that were based on the trilogy)

I'm sure I'm missing some, but I can't for the life of me think what they might be.  Does anyone out there have any titles to contribute to the above list?

The Hobbit (not sure if that counts as part of LotR)
The Narnia movie games
Eragon (movie game)

All I can think of. I've only read one book from all the one's you and I have listed. Shocked

Wow, I've even played some of those and forgot about them! *hand to face*

The Chronicles of Narnia games based on the Disney movies have both been quite enjoyable.  I reviewed The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe for Hardcore Gamer Magazine and Prince Caspian for my own site.  Word is that a third one in that series of films likely won't be made, which sucks because I'd like to see the games based on the movies keep happening but that can't take place without movies!  They're not likely to keep the series going directly from the books. :-(

Aww, that's too bad. I was looking forward to a movie on The Magician's Nephew. It's my favorite Narnia book from the ones I've read.
