Hey everyone, this is my very first post on the HGM Editor Blog.
I currently run two websites,
Denjin Video (with gootecks and Shogo), a
3rd Strike/MvC2 video site, and
Melty Bread, a
Melty Blood: Act Cadenza community site. I'm also head manager at Family Fun Arcade in Granada Hills, CA.
The arcade scene in the United States is at an all-time low these days, while it is absolutely
gangbusters in Japan right now, partly due to a high unemployment rate and the wider demographic of people who frequent arcades(also known as game centers in Japan). It's actually possible to make a living playing, say, Pachinko, though the 'cashing in of chips' must be done through a rather awkward, roundabout way to circumvent legal restrictions. If you go there right now, you'll notice that there are, in fact, a great deal of games designed to turn you into a penniless addict: Dragon Treasure happens to be my favorite crack of all time, being a medal game that requires you to aim a steady stream of medals (think tokens) down chutes to kill enemies and defend against attacks. Did I mention you also level your character up as well? You pick from one of four classes and save your progress on a card. There's multiple dungeons too.
The Crack in Question
The midst of battle. How to live? THROW MORE MONEY AT IT!Anyways, I plan on visiting Japan again in August, where I'll get to see BIG GUNDAM POD BATTLE MECHA GAME. It's like that X-Box VR Mech game
Steel Batallion, except 4v4 with a full panoramic/almost 360-degree wide view everywhere. Why can't we have Battletech games like that? =(
By the way, to those of you who are interested in
Super Battle Opera this year, it takes place in the first half of August, the same month as
Penny Arcade Expo and
Evolution. It will be a good month to be a gamer.
