While the sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops is all but assured to be announced later today, we’ve gotten even more evidence of the possible future setting. Leaked onto the internet are screenshots revealing what we can expect from the game when it is likely released this fall. From the looks of things, Black Ops II will take place in the near future where the world has entered a new Cold War. We already had our World War III with Modern Warfare 3, so it only makes sense.
While the Call of Duty setting started in Word War II, it vastly grew popularity when it hit the modern day timeline. I, for one, am glad that the series has gone into future and, based on these screenshots, it heavily remind me of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. You can only do so much in World War II and modern day. Advance the tech and advance the weaponry so we can have something to dream about in the future; or fear. I may not be the biggest Call of Duty fan, but as long as Activision continues to try and move their franchises forward, it should be enough to show them some love.
