Nintendo announced today at their 3Ds-specific press event that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will include several multiplayer modes.
In a challenge mode, players can run through three stages collecting as many coins as possible as quickly as possible. Streetpass will then show other 3DS users your best score and quickest time, which they can in turn try to beat. Players are given only one life in this mode, increasing the difficulty and precision needed to complete the challenge.
On top of that, two players can join together to complete the entire main game in co-operative gameplay. The camera will constantly follow the Bro in the lead, so players can also treat this mode as a competitive race to the finish. Players who fall behind, however, can always rejoin in a flying bubble, as is usual for recent Mario games.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 hits the 3DS in America this coming August 19th. For a closer look at the gameplay and a trailer, see our E3 coverage here.
