E3 2012: PlanetSide 2

Eight years after the original PlanetSide, PlanetSide 2 offers more than enough new features to set it apart from its predecessor. While it still keeps the same premise of three different factions fighting for territory on the planet Auraxis, the graphics and gameplay have been vastly improved.

PlanetSide 2 is all about controlling territory and resources; each valuable aspects to building your empire. The three factions are the Terran Republic, imposing world peace with necessary force, the New Conglomerate,  rebels opposing the Terran Republic, and the Vanu Sovereignty, who use advanced technology to teach others of Vanu. Within every faction are six groups. Some include medics, light assault, heavy assault, and mech fighters. Players can upgrade with new weapons, equipment, and skills by moving up Skill Trees.

Maps are larger than ever — continent size. Over ten vehicles are available to use and even customizable through the Skill Tree. Since this game is played by thousands of people during any given hour, battles can last days or even weeks. Members can form Outfits (guilds) making strategy and conversation easier between players.

A cool feature rolling out with PlanetSide 2 is a mobile iOS app (Android not confirmed) that will constantly keep you linked in with the game. You can even talk via voice to members of your Outfit, in a walkie-talkie like fashion, as well as get a live running tally of the current stats.

With its emphasis on banding together, PlanetSide 2 looks to be one of the most addicting MMO titles to come around in awhile. No release date has yet been set, so be sure to check back for our Beta coverage.
