Do you remember two years ago when Final Fantasy XIV released to incredibly poor response? I certainly do considering the barely touched collector’s edition that still sits atop my shelf. Square Enix hopes to remake and revitalize the series by releasing their “version 2.0” project, now properly titled, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The game has been redesigned from the ground up and hopes to expand on the universe by offering an entire new world and story to explore.
“Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new Final Fantasy XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the Final Fantasy series. I hope you’re looking forward to it!” said Naoki Yoshida, producer/director of Final Fantasy XIV.
Unfortunately, the video is strictly CG so there is no gameplay to be shown. No release date has been given, either, but it was stated that the game would launch anywhere between late 2012 and early 2013, coinciding with the Playstation 3 launch. Hopefully we get to see the game in motion soon as early screenshots looked promising.
