Playing Punch-Out!! is great, but what about reading about it? That’s the notion Australian and self-confessed video game nerd, Daniel Lanciana, has set out to create. “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!” is a unofficial encyclopedia chronicling the history of the classic NES game. Weighing in at 240 pages, there’s certainly a lot of content packed in, including the history, creators, gameplay, walkthrough, gallery, fan art, records, hacked roms, music and videos. The project is a culmination of a one-and-a-half year process of collecting raw data, editing, designing and refining.
The book comes in two flavors: a $10 digital version or a $125 physical version. Hardbound and meant for coffee tables everywhere, the gorgeous physical edition is certainly the draw here. At $125, it doesn’t come cheap, but the project is stated to be non-profit, with all funds going towards printing and obtaining remaining copyright permissions (i.e. Nintendo). With all the official art used both inside and out, we can only imagine what that will end up costing.
Of course, the book will only become a reality if it meets the $25,000 goal (currently sitting just shy of four grand). Head over to the Kickstarter if you’re interested in pledging or to Daniel’s Pixel Perfect Books blog for more information. Check out some official pictures from the prototype below:
