Is the successor to Rare’s Banjo-Tooie finally being created? It was more than 12 years ago that the hit N64 game was released and it’s about time we heard from the minds behind it. A recent Twitter account managed by former members of the development team has surfaced that hints at a new Banjo-Kazooie.
The name on the account is Mingy Jongo, one of the villains in Tooie — perhaps a sign of things to come. It appears the team has its sights set on using Unity as the game’s engine; other than that, there isn’t too much information available. One tweet reads, “
#unity will probably be perfect for our spiritual successor. I’m thinking keeping level of detail and googly eyes close to the original ..” By the sound of things, it may not be a direct three-quel but close to it. Perhaps it will follow a Mumbo Jumbo/Mingy Jongo storyline. Sure, we could talk about Nuts & Bolts, but since it didn’t really follow the format of its predecessors, we’ll skip that for now.
In related news, we spotted this contract job posting. The job calls for writers who know the history of Banjo-Kazooie by heart. They are working on an animated series based on the game. If you know your bears from your birds this might be the right job for you. With all this sudden resurgence surrounding Banjo-Kazooie we’ll have to wait for more news from the Mingy Jongo account to see how things are progressing. This is all adding up to one big comeback.
