When the Japanese version of Yakuza 5 hits in December, it will do so with not only Taiko Drum Master in its in-game arcade, but also the arcade version of Virtua Fighter 2. The original Yakuza teased players with a VF 4 cabinet, and now, there will finally be a real VF game in the fictional arcade. In-game arcade games being playable worked wonderfully for both Shenmue games, so I’m glad to see that trend resume now with the Yakuza series. It’s always felt like a spiritual successor to Shenmue, only with a more serious tone and storyline, and a less memorable soundtrack. Hopefully everything in the Japanese version is retained for the U.S. version when/if that comes out.
