Microsoft’s FY13 Q1 Earnings and Financial Release for the period ending September 30th was announced today. While there is plenty to dissect for the discerning investor, the number that caught our eyes was the LTD unit sales of the Xbox 360. After shipping 1.7 million units in the quarter, 70 million Xbox 360s have now been shipped since its 2005 debut.
Considering the original Xbox shipped a total of 24 million units, nearly tripling that number is a huge milestone to reach. If anything, it’s a testament to just how big gaming has become in mainstream society.
While reaching 70million in units shipped is a huge accomplishment, it may be overshadowed by a 94% drop in operating income, down to 19 million. Still, the company remains profitable and continues to sell consoles seven years after launch.
