Sega has announced that Fighting Vipers, Virtua Fighter 2, and Sonic the Fighters will be coming to XBLA and PSN in a matter of days. November 27th marks their debut on PSN, and they’ll hit XBLA one day later. Originally, it was thought that they’d be $10 each, but surprisingly, they’ll only be $5 – and that’s with each game including full online play. At that price, VF 2 and Fighting Vipers are no-brainers. I hope that these do really well and that they’re being used as test runs for other fighters, like Fighting Vipers 2, Virtua Fighter 3tb, and Fighters Megamix.
Seeing Fighting Vipers have a chance to succeed once again puts a smile on my face because it was one of the 32-bit era’s most fun fighting games and deserved better than to be largely forgotten for a decade. VF 2 is worth buying just due to its historic nature, and its gameplay has held up quite well with age. Sonic the Fighters wasn’t particularly amazing when it was new, and is really something that fits better as a freebie when thrown into things like the Sonic Gems Collection than as something you’re expected to pay for on its own since there’s so little depth to its gameplay. Each game appears to have been given much sharper graphics, which really makes VF 2 look amazing, and adds a lot of detail to FV as well. StF still has its blocky look, but its bright color scheme still looks impressive.
