At one point, it seemed like there was a new SHMUP being released for Xbox 360 every other week. It was a glorious time, really, but it’s been quiet on the shoot-em-up front as of late; a little too quiet. Fortunately Qute Corporation, best known for their 2011 scrolling-shooter, Eschatos, is breaking that silence with their announcement of a release date for their upcoming SHMUP, Ginga Force. Ginga Force was originally planned to hit store shelves this year, however, suffered a few delays during its development. It is now scheduled for a February 14, 2013 release in Japan — just in time for Valentine’s Day here in the states! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the occasion than with some vertical scrolling, bullet-hell maneuvering, explode-y boom brilliance.
It should be noted that Ginga Force is not your average SHMUP; it allows you to customize your ship with primary and secondary weapons, instead of those armaments being pre-determined like they are in most other games of this kind. If you’re a fan of the genre, that should be a big deal. If you find yourself scratching your head, wondering why that’s so important, then obviously you don’t play SHMUPS. If you want to get into them, though, take heed of the fact that Ginga Force will be region-free. Meaning to say, you can import this bad boy and play it on your North American 360 without a problem. Swoon!
