Remember when the first Disgaea was released? I sure do considering it was the first game I ever reviewed, but it basically made Nippon Ichi what it is today. Sure, they had La Pucelle and Rhapsody, but it was the Disgaea franchise that help established NIS as a juggernaut developer in the niche market of strategy RPGs. Two years after Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was published, the second game, Cursed Memories was released to high praise.
No longer will fans have to break out their old console (especially now that Sony has stopped producing them) as NIS America is making the second game available to anyone who owns a Playstation 3. Through Sony’s Playstation 2 Classics program on the Playstation Store, Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories will be available on January 22, 2012 at a standard price point of $9.99.
For anyone looking to play the best game in the series, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness will be available a week prior (but don’t expect to beat it in time for this release). Regardless, Disgaea 2 is still a fantastic game and is worthy of the classic branding.
