Don’t get too excited, it’s not as cool as you think. When Pokémon Scramble U is released on the Wii U eShop in Japan, a Skylanders type of feature will be available. Windup-like toys can be used in the game, but bear little resemblance to the actual Pokémon. They have very warped features because they are meant to look like toys instead of creatures. So, that’s a negative.
Using the Wii U GamePad to scan each toy, players will be able to use them in a less than momentous way compared to Skylanders. There probably won’t be much data or use for the scannable models besides loading a toy into the game. Fans have been wishing for a similar Pokémon game ever since the first Skylanders game, but this likely isn’t the answer they were looking for. At least it should fetch a few yen since Pokémon are everywhere in Japan. Collectors in the United States will go crazy just to get their hands on the toys, so it’s not a total bummer.
