Unannounced Mega Man FPS Reboot Cancelled

The little blue bomber’s future has been up in the air ever since Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3 were cancelled, but it doesn’t help that Capcom has ceased development on a reboot. Sources have supplied Polygon with information, screenshots and video about a first-person shooter Mega Man game, codenamed Maverick Hunter, that was being developed as a gritty reboot. Unfortunately, gamers will never see the title released as Capcom has since cancelled it.

To be honest, I’m actually glad they axed the game. Looking at the videos and screenshots, it didn’t look anything like the Mega Man that millions had fallen in love with. Just imagine if Nintendo tried to reboot Mario in a realistic and serious setting. Granted, this comes from the talent who brought us Metroid Prime and some of the mechanics do look quite appealing, so we hope that Capcom puts them to use in another game.
