Shin Megami Tensei IV GameStop Costume DLC is Horribly Gaudy

Even though the release date was just announced yesterday (July 16 for those keeping score), GameStop is not wasting anytime ensuring you pre-order the Shin Megami Tensei IV from them. Or don’t, maybe, because their pre-order bonus is one of the worst-looking pieces of DLC we’ve ever seen. We’re talking as bad (maybe worse) as God of War Ascension’s Vikings-sponsored hammer. It’s described as “an especially flashy piece of equipment for the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado’s Samurai, this special upper body armor suggests the attire of a medieval knight heightened by a red-and-gold oriental motif.” Flashy is certainly an understatement; this thing is hideous:

Not only would the gold cape look gaudy enough on its own, but it’s accented with black chain mail to make him look like a bumblebee plus solid silver leggings. It’s the sort of thing that would be featured on TV’s Fashion Police with Joan Rivers incessantly balking at it. Not that we watch Fashion Police. Although, it is a pretty good show. Anyways, the worst part of all is that it has a giant “GS” emblem for “GameStop” emblazoned on the chest. Now you can spend your entire time in Shin Megami Tensei shilling for GameStop! Isn’t that what gaming is all about?
