Mac owners are going to have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the newest SimCity, as they announced yesterday that the game was being pushed back until August. According to Senior Producer Kip Katsarelis, this delay is a result of SimCity not yet being up to their standards quite. He states on the SimCity blog that:
“We have made this tough decision because we do not believe it is ready for primetime yet. We want to ensure the Mac is a great experience for our players and that is why we are taking more time.”
Holy hell, the SimCity people think that the Mac version isn’t ready for primetime? How bad does a game have to be for these guys to look at it and think that it needs more work? They released a PC version that was effectively unplayable and thought we’d all have enough fun at the “sorry, you can’t play the game you bought” screen. They are the kind of people that would set their city on fire, send in multiple alien invasions, and never connect the power plants to the rest of the city and describe their actual SimCity as largely habitable and ready for primetime. Whatever is wrong with the Mac version is worse than not working at all, leading me to believe that the SimCity Mac edition has gained sentience and is attacking members of their staff. We’re like three steps away from Judgement Day here, people.
Of course, considering all the backlash they received when they released this game for PC, maybe they’re just doing their due diligence this time to make sure the stupid thing actually works. All things considered, the Mac folk are pretty lucky. Their version of SimCity will be ready by August. PC gamers still have no idea when their versions will be ready for primetime.
