If you love playing retro games, like really LOVE them, then you may not want to use an emulator on your computer or smart phone. If you yearn for the feeling of a blocky NES controller in your hand and a pixelated Mike Tyson on your flat screen, then you probably also need to play your classic games in cartridge form. If you’re that hardcore, then you probably don’t care about the clutter associated with owning several retro gaming systems, either. If that’s the case, you likely wouldn’t care about a 5-in-1 console like the RetroN 5, which allows you to play your Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo, NES, Genesis and Famicom cartridges all on one system.
The RetroN 5 succeeds the RetroN 4, adding new chipset compatibility for Famicom, Super Famicom, Mega Drive, Gameboy Color and Gameboy titles. So, wouldn’t that make this a 9-in-1 system? Technically, sure, but console creator Hyperkin wants to market the system to more than just the extreme classic gamers; and who the hell but them owns Mega Drive games? The RetroN 5 will be released this coming fall for under $100, according to Hyperkin, so keep an eye out for it.
