All sorts of goodness went down at last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con. In the midst of all that nerdtacular gushing, though, was Mondo announcing the online sale of their new vinyl release of Studio Ghibli Kokyo Kyokushu. This limited edition record will feature the incredible art of Mondo’s own Tyler Stout, along with a collection of selected tracks from five of Ghibli’s films performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. The compilation will go on sale this coming Friday, July 26, at a random time and, if we had to guess, will sell out quickly. Kokyo Kyokushu will include tracks from Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, The Cat Returns and My Neighbors The Yamadas.
If that’s not enough for all you collector’s out there, there will also be three separate versions of the album, each featuring a difference piece of artwork from Stout, which are said to capture the “elements from all five films across the Gatefold 2XLP packaging.” On top of that, each album will include two different colored records. Howl’s will come with a pink and purple vinyl, Princess Mononoke will sport a red and blue one and Spirited Away will round out the group in yellow and green.
With that being said, be sure to check out Mondo’s blog for the full tracklist, and be sure to follow them on Twitter to stay on the up and up when they announce the sale at the end of the week. It sure has been a good few days for Studio Ghibli.
