Hot off the presses is news concerning the cast of the forthcoming Rurouni Kenshin films. It was revealed earlier today that actor Ryunosuke Kamiki will portray Sojiro Seta in the to-be sequels, a fan favorite character and the right hand man of the series’ hero. Additionally, Yusuke Iseya is set to play Aoshi Shinomori, better known as the head of the Oniwabanshu clan. For the uninitiated, Kamiki was featured in Howl’s Moving Castle as the character Markl, and has starred in various other Studio Ghibli films to boot. That being said, the 20-year-old actor is hardly a newcomer to live-action adaptations, though, having played in the live-action iterations of Tadashi Agi and Tantei Gakuen Q (Detective School).
Yusuke, on the other hand, starred in the live-action adaptation of Honey & Clover, and was recently featured in the classic boxing manga, Ashita no Joe. Needless to say, both of these actors have plenty of experience in the live-action realm, and should be considered touch notch catches for director Keishi Otomo.
The goodness doesn’t stop there, however. The two sequels, set to cover the Kyoto arc of the manga, have been titled as well: Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen (The Great Kyoto Fire) and Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen (The End of a Legend). According to sources, the films are set to open sometime next summer.
To round out the cast, Takeru Satoh will reprise his lead role as Kenshin Himura of course, while the aforementioned Keishi Otomo returns to the directing helm. Tatsuya Fujiwara has also signed on again, playing the character of Makoto Shishio. Various other cast members are said to be making returns, too.
