Akira 25th Anniversary DVD/Blu-Ray Announced by FUNimation

Can you believe it has been 25 years since Akira first hit theaters in Japan? The film adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s manga of the same name proved to be an incredible hit that left its mark on animated cinema. All this time later people both in and out of the anime fandom discuss Akira as a landmark piece.

As part of YouTube’s “Geek Week”, FUNimation unveiled a trailer for their upcoming DVD and Blu-Ray combo release of Akira. This updated version is set to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the movie and is already looking to be the definitive version available.

FUNimation’s upcoming set includes the original Japanese voice acting as well as two English dubs. Both Pioneer and Streamline Picture’s English versions will be included as language tracks. No date was released yet but more details are expected to come during Otakon this weekend.
