Games for Windows Live To be Discontinued in July 2014

What was once considered an exciting prospect for those who loved the Xbox Live experience that 360 helped birth, Games for Windows Live quickly became disliked by many PC gamers due to invasive DRM, non-responsiveness and a plethora of other issues. As such, many will be excited to find out that Microsoft plans to discontinue the service beginning on July 1 2014, as revealed on the official page for Age of Empires Online. It’s currently unknown if Microsoft will switch to a new service for their PC titles, or discontinue the idea altogether.

Apparently, Age of Empires Online will be shutdown in response to this, which also raises the question of what will happen to games that required similar infrastructure.
