As our third Music Monday entry, we wanted to change things up a little bit. In the past two weeks, we have discussed J-pop almost exclusively, first providing you a Hatsune Miku ditty followed by an equally as catchy, Vocaloid-inspired tune from You Kikkawa. Today, however, we want to get into the more rocking sounds of all things Japanese. Thus, we’ll be focusing on one of our favorite J-rock bands, FACT. FACT has not only had an impressive presence in their home country, but have toured the US on multiple occasions with big names such as Senses Fail, iwrestledabearonce, A Skylit Drive and Memphis May Fire. The band also signed a deal with Vagrant Records (of Alkaline Trio, Saves the Day and The Get Up Kids fame) in 2008 and have put out a total of four LPs and three EPs.
Perhaps what’s best about FACT is their level of musicianship. They are technical beyond belief, but never at the expense of hooks and sing-a-long choruses. That’s what today’s song, “Foss,” is all about. “Foss” was the lead single of the band’s fourth album, Burundanga, released back in 2012. We suggest listening to this through headphones, as the song is crazy progressive and detailed with heavy guitars amidst a wall of double-bass and catchy riffs.
